I graduated with a D.M.D. from the University of Saskatchewan in 2012 and have since been on a mission to redefine continuing education to bridge the gap between the academic world and the rude awakening we get as we step into the real world! To this day, I can vividly remember struggling to remove a lower second molar on a nervous patient. Her anesthesia was less than optimal, it was taking me way too long to get the tooth out, and part way through I knew I had got in over my head! I was completely lost as to what instrument to use, where to elevate or what to do next and as the dread set in, all I could think about was what I was going to say to this poor woman who I was about to refer out and send home in pain. If only I knew then what I know now—it never would have happened!  As a dentist on paper—and an entrepreneur at heart—I only had to experience that sense of total failure once to know I had to do something! I’ve always felt driven to challenge the status quo and following this experience I felt compelled to ensure that no other dentist would have to feel the helplessness of being undereducated and underprepared. | Why Did I Create This Course?Watching my father, a veterinarian of over 30 years, retire with a wealth of knowledge, I realized how much we lose when experience isn’t passed down. He often said, “Experience is what you gain one second after you needed it.” That stuck with me! As I worked to improve my skills I had searched high and low for effective resources on basic oral surgery, but every course I attended was just a rehash of the textbooks! After years of wishing someone would create a more practical course, I decided to do it myself. It’s my sincere hope that everyone who engages with this material finds greater enjoyment in oral surgery, helps more patients, and leads a more fulfilling professional career!
